Trust Your Gut, Dear — A Northern Ramble on Intuition, Bloodlines & Biscuits

Intuition - when did we stop trusting it

When did we stop trusting our intuition, dear?

Intuition…It has been playing on my mind lately, somewhere between losing my keys for the third time this week and wondering whether I really need another brew. (I do.) At some point, we swapped gut instinct for Google, and I don’t think our ancestors would be impressed. They survived storms, famines, and questionable medical advice using nothing but instinct and maybe a few herbs from the garden. Meanwhile, we can’t pick a cereal without reading three reviews and checking the sugar content.

Our bloodlines carry more than DNA. They carry knowing. The sort of quiet, deep, soul-level knowing that says, “hang on a minute, something’s off here,” before your brain catches up. Whether it’s family, friends, or the kind of partner who can sense your mood before you’ve even opened your mouth, those bonds are steeped in something ancient. Something we have half-forgotten in all the noise.

Listening to Ancient Wisdom in a Modern World

It might be a little obvious but…ancestors did not have algorithms or notifications. They had stars, herbs, gut feelings and a good sense of when to leg it. They trusted their bodies and the natural world to guide them. It was a kind of everyday spirituality, really. The kind that does not need incense or chanting, though if that is your thing, go for it. Maybe that is why I have been getting into more holistic things lately, grounding myself, using little rituals that remind me I am part of something bigger. Lighting a candle, holding a crystal, taking five minutes to breathe before diving back into the chaos. Simple, human, ancient stuff.

Because let’s be honest, whether you take The Matrix red pill or the blue one, it does not matter anymore. The algorithm already knows your every thought. You cannot outsmart it. So you might as well out-feel it instead. Trust your intuition. It is the one inner compass that has never sold you out for ad revenue.

So when did we stop trusting it?

Maybe when we stopped sitting round the table with the people who knew us best. Maybe when we started asking strangers on the internet for advice instead of asking our nan. Maybe when we got so busy being clever that we forgot how to listen.

But intuition does not go away. It just waits for us to remember. It is the tingle on your arms, the lump in your throat, the sudden “nope” that does not need explaining. It is your ancestors whispering through your bloodstream saying, “Come on, love, you already know.”

So here is to trusting yourself again. To finding the magic in the mundane. To holding the mug, the memory, the moment, and knowing that you are part of a long line of people who felt their way through life just fine without Wi-Fi.

And here is to the Power of Three, two brothers, one sister, and a shared gut instinct that no algorithm can ever replicate.

Now, if you will excuse me, I am off to cleanse my crystals (by “cleanse” I mean rinse the dust off under the tap), put the kettle on, and see if there is a biscuit left. Spoiler: there is not. But I have a feeling who took it.

And if all else fails, give our little Rambling Mimi theme tune a hum while you sip a nice herbal tea. It won’t cast any spells, but it might just help you hone your intuition…or at the very least, make the biscuits taste better.
