There are some books that we read once and enjoy.
And then there are books that quietly stay with us.
The kind we return to when life feels overwhelming. The ones we reach for when we need comfort, perspective or simply a reminder to slow down.
Over the years, I’ve found myself drawn towards books that encourage a gentler way of living. Books that explore simplicity, nature, mindfulness, healing and the idea that perhaps life doesn’t always have to be rushed in order to be meaningful.
Many of the themes I write about here on Rambling Mimi have been shaped by these kinds of books.
Some have introduced me to beautiful Japanese philosophies centred around presence, gratitude and finding joy in ordinary moments. Others have encouraged me to explore wellbeing more holistically through nature, reflection, intuition and self-discovery.
My Favourite Reads
Recently, I decided to gather some of my favourite reads into a couple of curated collections.
The first collection, Inspired by Japan, includes books such as Ikigai, The Book of Ichigo Ichie and Wabi Sabi. These books explore ideas that have become increasingly important to me over the years — slowing down, embracing imperfection and finding beauty in everyday life.
The second collection, Gentle Healing & Inner Wisdom, brings together books focused on wellbeing, Reiki, dreams, natural healing and personal reflection. They are books that encourage us to look inward, trust ourselves a little more and create space for healing and growth.
What I love about all of these books is that none of them promise instant transformation. Instead, they offer gentle wisdom, thoughtful perspectives and small reminders that often arrive at exactly the right moment.

One of the reasons I chose to create my collections through Bookshop.org is because they support independent bookshops while helping readers discover new books they may not otherwise have found.
As a writer and lifelong reader, I love the idea that buying a book can also help support the wider literary community. Independent bookshops, authors and readers all play a part in keeping stories, ideas and creativity alive, and platforms like Bookshop.org help make that possible.
Of course, whether you choose to purchase a book or simply add one to your reading list, I hope these collections inspire you to find a quiet moment for yourself.
Perhaps with a warm drink nearby.
A cosy blanket.
A little less rushing.
And a little more time to simply be.
Happy reading,
Rambling Mimi 🤍
